THE ALPINE SKI AND SNOWBOARD FRIDAY PROGRAM

The Ski/Snowboard Friday Program happens on 6 Fridays starting in January. We use the Dartmouth Skiway in Lyme, NH. Thetford children K-6th grade may participate. Children who attend school at OFS or tuition into TES may also participate. On Ski/Snowboard days, the school day ends after lunch. For these program dates, TES students have the option of signing up for this program, signing up for the Alternative Ski Program (which will be posted soon and is very inexpensive) which is a fun option for students who need or want to stay at TES for the remainder of the school day on Ski/Snowboard days. Lastly, kids have the option to go home if that works for their household. Whichever you choose for your child, they need to stick with that option during these dates.
Thetford typically brings a very large group of kids to the Skiway for this program and we need a HUGE number of volunteers to make this program happen. Volunteers participate for free.
If we cancel a Ski/Snowboard date, we try our best to cancel by Thursday morning at the latest. If we cancel, the school day becomes a typical full school day.
For all participants: Register here (below) for the Ski and Snowboard Program through Thetford Rec below. Required for all participants and volunteers (regardless of season pass status).
We will have a separate sign-up to send to you at a later date that gets you signed up through the Skiway as well. We are separating these steps to make it less confusing and to ensure that everyone does both steps.
DATES:
- All parents/guardians and volunteers... Mandatory Meeting Sunday, January 3 at 7pm Zoom meeting for participants and volunteers - Please Mark Your Calendars
- 2027 Ski Friday Dates: 1/8, 1/22, 2/5, 2/12, 2/19, 3/5 ( make up day 3/12)
- Skipped Fridays: 1/15 (no sch), 1/29 (regular sch day), 2/26 (no sch)
TRANSPORTATION:
All TES Students will be dismissed at 12:00. All Ski Friday program participants in grades K-6 will have the option to take a bus from TES to the Skiway (the buses do not provide transportation back). Those taking alternate transportation (e.g. ride from parents) should arrive at the Skiway by 12:30. Program ends at 4:00pm, and all participants must be checked out with their group leader and picked up at the Skiway at 4:00.
FIRST-TIME SKIERS and ALL KINDERGARTNERS: A parent/guardian must be present for the first three sessions for all kindergarten participants regardless of experience level and all first-time skiers/riders grades 1-6 (on 1/8, 1/22, 2/5). No exceptions.

VOLUNTEER ROLES
On-Foot Helpers - For those new to skiing or riding, but want to help. We can definitely use on-hill support from those on foot!
On-Hill Group Leaders - The group leaders are confident skiers/riders who are the primary point of contact for a group of 3-8 skiers/riders, will represent Thetford Rec in a positive way, and will ensure safe, kind and responsible behavior of their group while at the Skiway.
On-Hill Assistant Group Leaders - Supports the group leaders, helps keep kids together, having fun and being safe.
On-Hill Substitutes - Those who can provide occasional on-hill support but may not be able to commit to all Ski days.
Lodge Parents - Lodge parents provide vital logistical support which ensures group leaders and assistants can spend more time out on the slopes with their groups. Some tasks include: managing attendance, setting up and clearing lodge tables, sign-in sheets, lost-and-found, facilitating day-of communication with the school and parents as needed, helping students who may need a break while their group remains on the hill, etc.
