6:00 PM - 7:00 PM    Taiji for Healing - Winter 2026 - Taiji for Healing - Winter '26
Back by popular demand... Taiji for Healing with George Leung!George Leung teaches various martial arts. He is again volunteering to bring his knowledge and skill of teaching Taiji for Healing to Thetford Rec.Taiji for Healing:Taijiquan (T’ai-chi) is an outstanding exercise for rehabilitating a broad range of chronic ailments, but the key to its effectiveness lies in the mind, not the movements! In this class, we will study only a handful of easy-to-learn postures drawn from traditional Taijiquan as a starting point for exploring how mindfulness can profoundly transform the body and tap into our incredible fascial network, the source of Taiji’s fabled martial skill and revered healing effects. The goal of this class is to empower students with a simple, clear, and effective practice to improve pain and mobility issues, quiet the busy mind, and reacquaint ourselves with our bodies as truly sublime spaces for us to inhabit. This class is specifically for adults (18+ year-olds). Attire:Feet specifics: Either have bare feet (no socks) or clean comfortable shoes that are not too padded (please bring clean shoes to wear in class that you haven't been walking around outside with - to keep the floor safe and clean at the community center).>>Please leave all outside shoes by the door when you enter the building.Clothing: Loose fitting comfortable clothes that allow you to move and bend with ease.Items to bring (and not bring):-water bottle-no mat used-please no strong perfumesSchedule:Mondays in January and February from 6-7pm at the Thetford Center Community CenterCost: The fee noted below covers all 8 classes (so if you are paying $8 at sign-up, that means you are paying for 1 dollar per class). There is no fee beyond the initial sign-up. So, if you are a resident of Thetford, you pay a total of $8 for the whole program and if you are a non-resident you pay a total of $12 for the whole program.FAQ: Q:"Can I miss a class?"A: George (the instructor) said that each class builds on things that were taught in previous classes. If you are comfortable with that, it is ok to miss a class if it doesn't work with your schedule. If you miss a class, please do not request for the missed lessons to be repeated as others will be ready to move on with new information.Q: "Can I join the class if it is full?"A: We have found that 20 people plus an instructor is a lot of people for the space. We will not be allowing more than 20 sign-ups for this class. Please note: As with all Thetford Rec Programs, need based financial assistance is available to all residents of Thetford.

Countdown Timer Important Rules While Attending Practices and Games:It is important to note that during both practices and games in the gym, there are rules in place that always need to be followed by families and guests. 1) Adults who are not coaches need to sit an observe. It is not helpful, appropriate or desirable for non-coaches to coach from the sidelines.2) Children who are not on the team must always stay with and near their adult(s).3) Children may not be on the stage and may not be on the gym floor (no matter what area of the gym is or is not being used for practice). Children must either stay on the bleachers with their adult(s) or be outside with their adult(s). 4) While attending practices and games, always remember that you as a family have agreed to our behavior policy. Please act in a respectful manner and respect other individuals no matter who they are (coaches, players, referees, others). It is very important for adults to model appropriate and respectful behavior for the kids at all times.
