Soccer 2026 - 5/6 Soccer: Practice
It's time for Soccer Sign-Ups! SOCCER SIGN-UPS WILL CLOSE AUGUST 19thWe'll be doing co-ed soccer teams and mixed grade groups. This is what other towns that we play games with do as well. In some cases if we have enough kids in a group, we will split for numbers (two even coed teams) or split by gender. It will all depend on how many kids sign-up for each team. We need multiple coaches to sign up at each level. Please sign-up to coach here.
Schedule Notes: While days/times often depend a lot on the availability of the coaches, we found last year (2025) that the stated days and times worked best since we need to build soccer and fall ball around each other (so that coaches and players can do both if they wish to). Times may be changed a little once we have coaches in place, but the stated days/times are what worked best last year and a lot of thought went into it when we set that up. The PreK-2nd teams will always have Sat AM practices and games. The 1/2 team will have a practice on one weekday as well. That weekday could change from what is posted from last year.Younger Teams - PreK-2nd (coed):The younger teams will have maybe one or two games for fun but be primarily focused on learning about soccer, practicing and skill building.Pre-K and K (separately) will have Saturday morning only practices. PreK will be Saturdays - time tbdK will be Saturdays - time tbdPlease note: The PreK team is kids who are in their last year of preschool and will be in kindergarten the year after.Grades 1/2 will have practices [a weekday - tbd] afternoons at 4pm and Saturday mornings at [time tbd]. 1/2 will have a smaller number of games than older teams but more than Pre-K & K will have. We may split teams by numbers or gender depending on our numbers.Older Teams - 3rd-6th:The older teams will have both practices and games with nearby towns. If we turn out to have too many kids for 1 team per grade range, we will have multiple teams that are evenly leveled (as much as possible) and have color names (such as Blue and White team) for the teams. We also may split teams by gender depending on our numbers.There is no actual league that we join for soccer so we are able to determine which towns that we play and can choose to play towns close by to Thetford.Times for 3-6 are probable to what is shown in the green schedule below, because we need to work around Fall Ball as well, but times could change a little bit once we have coaches lined up.Grades 3/4 will have practice and games on Tuesdays and Thursdays likely at 5pmGrades 5/6 will have practices and games on Wednesdays and Fridays likely at 5pm. FAQ:Question: How long is the soccer season?Answer: September and October... teams generally start practices the second week of school to let kids acclimate to school first. The season ends right before Halloween.Question: Can non-Thetford residents sign up?Answer: The non-resident option is only for kids who attend school in Thetford but do not live in Thetford.This option is only for students at Open Fields School or TES kids who tuition in from another town. We expect to have many soccer sign-ups so we are not offering it to kids outside of Thetford (aside from the kids noted above).Question: Can kids do both Soccer and Fall Ball?Answer: Yes (although I've heard it's a lot for a player to do both), I have made the schedules work so that kids can be signed up for Fall Ball in Post Mills and Soccer at TES. Please see the Fall Ball (which is 10u and 12u baseball) sign-up for more info on Fall Ball.Here is how the schedules work together for the two sports (green schedule image from 2025 but is likely the same for 2026):Schedules will be viewable on the Thetford Rec site if you click on the calendar (from the homepage). Right now I have weekday soccer practices on there. I'll update the Saturday team times once I know them. Game schedule meetings with other towns happen in August. We will not have a games schedule until those meetings happen.COACH INFO: We need coaches... Please sign up to coach >Here<Pre K Sat AM Coach -K Sat AM Coach -1/2 Coach - and Coach -3/4 Coach - and Coach -5/6 Coach - and Coach -Uniforms for 1st-6th grade:Performance Tee's are worn for soccer.Many kids have this shirt already. Please note in the questions (at sign-up) if your child has a shirt to wear or not.Shirts will be on loan for those who need them. A fee will be charged at the end of the season for anyone who does not return a loaned shirt by that date.Uniform Return Due Date and charge Info: Please mark your calendar. Oct 30, 2026 all loaned shirts will be due, with a buffer week to follow when I will remind folks to turn them in. Then on Nov 9th every family who owes a borrowed shirt will be charged for it in full at $15 per shirt (regardless of it being sent in after that date).Pre-K and K do not need uniform shirts. There will be no shirts provided through Thetford Rec for Pre-K and K. Players may wear anything appropriate for running and kicking a ball.
