Policy:
In order to have a safe, respectful and enjoyable environment for everyone, during Thetford Recreation activities, all adults and children alike are expected to demonstrate safe, kind, responsible and respectful behavior with their voices, body language and interactions with others during all recreation activities and events.

Voices and words:
  • Be Respectful, Encouraging, Supportive and Thoughtful
  • Communicate Clearly and with Respect
  • Loud voices should be encouraging and/or excited (ie not yelling at or jeering at individuals or groups/teams)
  • Know your role: Give direction to attendees only if you are a leader/coach or sports official (do not direct from the sidelines).

Body language:
  • Respect personal boundaries
  • Model kind and encouraging behavior
  • Help keep everyone safe
  • Be helpful and supportive

Stage 1 - Warning:

  • Youth (displaying general behavior issues not noted below): 2 warnings given to cease/stop from a leader/coach (a 3rd incident moves you to Stage 2)

  • Youth: only 1 warning if behavior is dangerous (unintentionally) or of a bullying nature in which case a verified 2nd action after a warning moves you to Stage 2

  • Adults (displaying general behavior issues not noted below): 1 warning given to cease/stop, a second incident (after 1 warning) moves you to Stage 2

  • All ages: actions will be taken (Stage 2 / Stage 3) after only 1 incident if behavior is intentionally dangerous or a derogatory slur is used in which you move directly to Stage 2.

Stage 2 - Communication and Problem Solving with Rec Director:
  • Phone call or in-person meeting with the Rec Director to communicate about the issue and Conflict Resolution / Problem Solving process with Rec Director to work through how to go forward.
  • Consider the need to move to Stage 3 in cases of intentional harm.

Stage 3 - Consider Ramifications:
  • If undesired behavior is repeated after meeting with Rec Director, consider the need for removal from activity or other options based on individual situation.
    • Examples:
      • Missing out on certain opportunities
      • Parent/guardian must be present for set number of days
      • Removal from program for the season/session
